The Heritage Fund is a county foundation housed in a restored historic house located next to a handsome garden. The public nature of the institution led them to ask us to make the modifications necessary to make the building accessible. Numerous modifications were necessary, the greatest of which was the addition of a wheelchair ramp.
The challenge in this project was the desire that the changes be seamlessly integrated with the historic fabric. To that end, the ramp uses masonry like that on the house's foundation and railings similar to those elsewhere on the building. It is arranged to have minimal impact on the garden and its fine specimen tree. The garden was also sensitively modified. New walks were installed, connecting the entrance with the street and parking area.
